Fundraising Opportunities

The fundraising committee offers opportunities for families to reduce their volleyball fees, build a financial assistance fund, and help support the ongoing operations of Alliance Volleyball. Many fundraisers will support your specific athletes, but we also hope to offer opportunities to raise funds so Alliance can offset operating costs and establish a financial assistance fund. We want to make volleyball affordable for everyone! If you have questions about fundraising, please email Bill Hyde at billhyde51@yahoo.com.  Credits raised through fundraising are intended to be used by the athlete who raised them and for Alliance Volleyball Club.  Therefore, these credits are not transferable to another athlete nor are they transferable to another club.  In the event an athlete with credits leaves the club or chooses not to play, the funds will be held for a year and would be available to the athlete upon return to the club.  After a year, they transfer to the club’s financial assistance fund.

Great Lakes Scrip: New Opportunity!

Just in time for the holidays! What if you could raise money for your athlete and not sell door-to-door and not spend any more money than you normally would? We have a new opportunity that we are very excited about called “scrip.” Great Lakes Scrip (www.glscrip.com) works like this: you set up an account online, order gift cards online, pay online, then get the gift cards. Depending on which cards you purchase, the vendor donates a percentage directly to Alliance on behalf of your player. You get the full face value of the gift cards and your athlete receives a credit towards volleyball fees! What vendors are available and what is the percentage they will pay? How about Amazon.com (4%), Barnes & Noble (9%), Chili’s (11%), Gap (11%), ITunes (5%), Land’s End (17%), Lowe’s (4%), O’Charley’s (13%), Starbucks (7%), and Wal-Mart (2%)? This is just a small sample… there are 100’s more!  Scroll down to the end of this page for more detailed information on the scrips program.

Concessions at the Sommet Center

The Sommet Center is looking for individuals to work concessions. The minimum you can earn at the Sommet Center is $55 per event, but you can earn more depending on the amount of food and beverage sold. Anyone 18 or older can volunteer and money is credited toward your athlete’s volleyball fees. An unpaid training session is required. If you are interested in this opportunity, please email Ron Schmittou at Ron.Schmittou@craneamerica.com for more details.

Kroger Cares

Let’s face it: you have to eat. So why not earn some funds to apply towards volleyball fees when you purchase groceries? The “Kroger Cares” program allows you to do just that. Obtain a Kroger gift card from Michelle Locke, make your purchases with the gift card, and Kroger donates 4% of your purchases towards your athlete’s volleyball fees. It does not get much easier to lower your fees! To get a card or learn more, contact Michelle at mlocke@tnjones.com.

Great Lakes Scrip Program for Alliance Volleyball!

This program is easy, convenient, and effective in lowering your fees. By purchasing gift cards online through GL Scrip, a percentage of your purchase will apply towards your athlete’s fees. The percentage and amount depends on the vendors you select and the amount of cards you purchase. The beauty of this program is you get the gift cards at face value from vendors you will shop with and the vendors will donate a percentage back to Alliance on your behalf. This will be an ongoing program that will remain available to Alliance families!
·You get the face amount of the gift cards you purchase. The funds are raised from the vendors who sell you their gift cards.
·No one (especially you) has to spend any more money than they would have spent. Shop where you normally would shop!
·No more door-to-door selling.
·Your co-workers will appreciate not having to purchase something they really do not want or need.
·It is all online. It is secure.
·It really is this easy. And it is easy to get started!

Here are some questions you may have:
·I really do not have any questions and I want to get started.
o   Great! Here are the steps to get started:
§ Go to www.shopwithscrip.com.
§ There is an option on the page called "Family Signup" so select "create account."
§ Fill in the information for your profile. Please be sure to enter your athlete’s name in the “Student Name.”
§ When you click on "I accept" at the bottom of the page, enter the enrollment code: 67111CC72356L. This associates your profile with Alliance Volleyball.
§ Once you log in, click on the option that says "Set up Presto-Pay." Enter your banking information here. This enables you to pay for your gift cards online. Yes, it is safe.
·What is Presto-Pay?
o   Presto-Pay is the system that enables you to purchase your gift cards online. By entering your checking information, your purchases will come directly from your account. This is called an ACH and it is safe. GLS transmissions are sent via secure data links and all data is encrypted. All of the data entered on their website is also secure and encrypted. Over 90% of their customers use Presto-Pay and they have used this process for the past 14 years. Bottomline: it is safe. Like most of their customers, we decided to use this feature because it is actually more secure (since your data is encrypted and no one else can obtain checking information from your check) and faster than using paper checks.
·Is Presto-Pay free?
o   Not quite, but pretty close! It is simply too cumbersome and expensive to handle checks. There is a $.39 fee per order for using Presto-Pay, which is cheaper then a stamp. If the payment is returned or rejected by the bank for any reason (e.g. closed account, insufficient funds, etc.), there is a $30 fee. So, make sure there is money in your account when you place your order!
·Are there any other fees?
o   The only other fee is to ship your order. The coordinator will take all of the orders from each family and combine them into one big order to GLS, which minimizes shipping costs. Your order will be sent to the coordinator via Federal Express and it is insured. The cost of shipping, usually $7.50 per package, will be divided between the families who placed the orders for each delivery.
·Can I use a check? The system gives me the option to pay by check when I place my order.
o   No, you cannot use a check. GLS does not accept personal checks at all. We cannot make deposits with personal checks, wait for them to clear, then pay from the Alliance account. Sounds difficult, right? It would be! Presto-Pay is easy, cheap, secure, and fast. Any orders that have “pay by check” will be deleted from the system.
·Can I pay with Paypal? How about a credit card? Or debit card?
o   No, no, and no. None of these options are available. They all involve fees that GLS would be forced to pay, which reduces the amount they can donate to Alliance. Presto-Pay is the way to go!
·How long does it take to get my account set up?
o   It takes minutes. Personally, I had everything set up under five minutes.
·How quickly can I begin making orders?
o   Although it takes just a few minutes to set up your profile and enter your banking information, it takes a few days to verify your Presto-Pay account. It is very similar to establishing a Paypal account. Here is how that process works:
§ Enter your banking information. Caution: it takes the system a few minutes to accept the data! Be patient! In the next day or two, GLS will make two small deposits into your account.
§ Once you know the amounts of the deposits, log in to your GLS account and enter them in.
·I do not quite understand something about Great Lakes Scrip.
§ Feel free to call them at 800.727.4715. They are very nice folks.
·So, how long will it take to get my gift cards?
o   It depends. Once all of the orders are placed by each family, the coordinator will compile them into one big order. This process will probably take place on Mondays, which means that deliveries will probably show up at the end of each week. Have all of your orders placed by Mondays at 10:00 a.m. to have them entered for that week.
·I have already paid my volleyball fees for the 2009-2010 season. What happens now?
o   You have choices:
§ Apply your funds to the next season, or
§ Receive a check from Alliance for any funds raised up to the amount you have paid before February 1, 2010. Anything after this date cannot be applied to fees for this season, unless your team has post-season play that the initial club fees do not cover.
·Can I use the funds for anything?
o   The funds raised can be used for volleyball fees. We hope to be able to use the funds for lessons and camps, but that has not been figured out yet. Funds cannot be used for travel or merchandise.
·Will GLS share my personal information with spammers or other third-parties?
o   Of course not. According to the easy-to-read provisions of their Privacy Statement, ShopWithScrip.com will never give your personal information to third parties. However, all ShopWithScrip.com users agree to receive administrative and promotional email messages from ShopWithScrip.com only.
·What happens if I leave Alliance and I have unused funds?
o   Because these funds are raised for the benefit of a non-profit organization, Alliance cannot give the money to anyone else. The IRS would not appreciate it one bit. The funds would go to the financial assistance fund, which will be used for need-based scholarships and grants; they are not transferable to another player.
·How will I get my cards?
Here is the procedure for picking up your scrip at A-Game:
  • Log on to the www.shopwithscrip.com website.
  • About halfway down the page, there is a section called "Last Five Orders." Click on "View Order" for the order(s) you want to pick up. A report called the "Family Order Receipt" will be displayed.
  • Print the "Family Order Receipt" for the order(s) you would like to pick up. This is for security purposes, so please do not forget your receipt.
  • Go to the Information Desk at A-Game (it's across from the concession stand) and give the person at the desk the "Family Order Receipt" for the order(s) you want to pick up.
  • Open the envelope with the person at the desk. Go through the order and make sure it is correct. Once you leave, it is assumed the order is correct.
  • The person at the desk will ask you to sign the packing slip for our records.
  • Spend all of the funds on the cards.
  • Buy more cards!
·Can I buy cards and have them shipped to a specific place?
o   No, all cards come here in one package.
·What does “reloadable” mean?
o   There are many cards that allow you to hang on to the physical card and continue to load funds on it through your account.  By putting funds on the card you already have, you get all the rebate without having to pay shipping.
·I still need more information.

There is a lot of information at www.glscrip.com or www.shopwithscrip.com. Be sure to click on “Shop” to see the tremendous selection of cards available! If you have specific questions, please contact me at billhyde51@yahoo.com.
